This beauty is Ashley–you usually see her work from the other side of the camera when you’re on my blog since besides being a gorgeous model, she’s a talented photographer and snaps a lot of my photos! The summer light was too hard to resist for a quick photoshoot and here are just a few photos–more on her blog at Ashley Ellen Howard!

I’ve been in desperate need of more professional clothing for work and once I found these culottes online, I scooped them up and they actually fit! I donated my boring ass dress pants a year out of college and vowed to wear professional clothing that better suited me. And these culottes are it! If only I had these eight years ago as a pant option. Since they’re so high waist, I could pull off this tight little crop top and tucked into my pants (with a blazer and black heels!) for the press conference we had in Detroit with a client. For a coffee date with Ashley and dinner with Sam, I traded out the heels for oxfords. My feet just can’t handle a pair of high heels like they used to, damn.

After a work trip to Traverse City, I made my way down Lake Michigan to visit the fam. We had grand plans to visit the beach two days in a row, but rain, yet again thwarted these plans. Luckily, a few of us were able to make our way to Grand Haven for some frozen yogurt and a quick beach visit before the thunder and lightning rolled in Saturday night.

My sweet pea baby cousin finally warmed up to me! She let me hold her and pinch her cheeks (after bribing her with a reese’s cup. Shit works wonders.) I snapped so many photos of her playing in the water in her little dress. So precious!

I spent Sunday lounging (and yelling at dogs) poolside with my friends sipping on sparkling wine splits. We had five dogs total running through the yard, jumping or falling into the pool and rubbing their noses in poop, but it was still a fabulous day.
James didn’t particularly enjoy swimming, but could float on with my friend Andrea for days

Brought this tee and some realizations back from Dallas last week. I already got a grease stain on the front of the tee thanks to beef sandwich I ate while driving, but as I drove to my hometown for Labor Day, I started to notice just how tired and broken everything looked in comparison to Dallas. Everything in Dallas is so fresh and new and I can’t help but wonder if these areas in Michigan I live in and frequent were once that vibrant. So much economic development and new headquarters for international companies popping up everywhere there, but maybe too much? I love the history and the charm we get here in Michigan or even vacant corner stores like this one. These are my favorite little stores in small towns and this is the one I grew up walking to in order to return cans and buy pixie sticks, rent VHS tapes and buy hot cheetos. I don’t need brand new everything, just some liveliness injected back into some of these towns.
