I wish I could go back in time and convince college me to go ahead and give shorts a try instead of waiting so much later to warm up to them. Today, you’re hard pressed to find me not in a pair of high rise short shorts once I’m out of work. Three years later, I still consider these faux leather shorts the best $15 I’ve spent and they helped transition a work outfit to something more appropriate for a fun networking event and dinner on a patio with friends.

Second City

A visit to Chicago last weekend meant not only seeing my local loves, but the sassiest visiting foreigner, Yen of My Edit. The two of us stayed at Merl’s and I was the annoying one on Saturday morning forcing them to get ready quickly to head to the beach while they nursed their hangovers (of course, this old woman stayed back while Merl and Yen went dancing Friday night.) Merl, Yen, Lora and my bestie Courtney spent Saturday at Hollywood Beach where we got our fill of both gay men in their tiny little swimsuits and margaritas.
We headed to Bar Deville that night, the place that sucks out my life force and after dancing to a couple songs  and reading the chalkboard behind the DJ reading “NO REQUESTS. NO ROBIN THICKE” No Robin Thicke? Bitch, please. I left, grabbed  MacDonald’s and fell asleep with one of Merl’s cats, which is actually a pretty typical bar night in Chicago for myself. As Merl says, I’m 27 going on 82.

I wore a variation of this outfit out to the bar on Saturday, realized I severely underpacked and wore this on Sunday for some quick shopping downtown before I headed back home.

Spring Lake

I love a basic tee and jeans look and this is my summer-ized version. After running errands and a trip to the dentist, I changed from a pair of leopard flats to these cut-out sandals and enjoyed an afternoon near the docks for an early dinner with my mama.

Nothing Better

After years and years of my grandparents spoiling me, I love to return the favor when they visit me. I carefully select restaurants I know they’ll love, plan movie theatre trips and make sure to have a lot of cheese on hand. (They love cheese.)
On Sunday, I tossed on this flowy babydoll dress and introduced them to a local indoors farmer’s market, where we indulged in some wine and cheese tasting and picked up a couple rose bushes for my new deck.

For the Love of Denim

I bought the week pass to my city’s annual music festival, Common Ground, and headed out for the first day in my best Canadian Tuxedo, summer edition. I sipped on Labatt, ate a corn dog and enjoyed plentiful people watching. No better way to spend a Monday.
