Fun in the Sun

I'm lucky to have so many friends from a while back from college, high school and even elementary like my friends Courtney and Melissa who I visited and hung out with last weekend in Chicago! We spent early Saturday soaking up some sun on Courtney's rooftop deck with her precious dog, Molly, giving me a chance to wear this cute bathing suit most likely for the last time before summer's conclusion.

We spent the rest of Saturday eating food and shopping at the Randolph Street Market and visiting downtown. It's funny because I love jean cut offs so much and none of my friends I see on a regular basis sport them as often as I do. Or at all, for that matter. And then I see Court and Melissa wearing jean cut offs on Saturday too. It must be a Ravenna, Michigan thing.

We used to have sleepovers all the time when we in 5th, 6th, 7th grade and even now, 15+ years later, we can do the same thing, trading out juice for boxed wine (we're classy like that), painting our nails and still listening to Hanson.

Travel Wear

I dug through my closet to find something put together enough for work and comfortable to endure a four hour car drive to visit Courtney in Chicago and my friend Melissa who was visiting from Boston. I stuffed this vintage Louis Vuitton bag with mostly shoes and some jean cutoffs and I was good to go. Earlier last week, my friend Chad claimed he had a vintage LV bag that his mom got him from an estate sale. This dude usually doesn't know what he's talking about, but sure enough, it's legit and we're in talks of the right price to buy it from him since he doesn't appreciate it at all and he apparently only uses it to lug up his belongings for camping up north.

Neutral + Polka Dots

Pattern mixing. It's something I don't attempt very often, but with the neutral palette, I felt comfortable mixing polka dots, the textured top and the skirt with nude shoes. It was an outfit I could wear to work and be comfortable in from running to a radio interview to many, many meetings.

Loud

 I spent a majority of my time last weekend in the Detroit area to do some shopping (gotta get a few things for NYFW!) and with Jack's friends since it was also Dream Cruise, a nightmare of an event where more than 30,000 muscle cars, old cars, etc drive down a stretch of a main street and disrupt the area and its traffic. I saw a few interesting cars, but I more enjoyed his friend's party a little more. Really, there's nothing better than hot dogs and beers.
I had nothing appropriate to wear this dress to this past weekend but played dress up anyways and forced Jack to snap some photos yesterday. I'll be wearing this when I visit Chicago this weekend. I'm in love with every detail of the dress, from the open back to high-low hem and its color and a girl's weekend is the perfect time to wear this dress out on the town.

Rain Day

For once in my life, I was excited for rain this past week. Living in one of the cloudiest cities, I'm usually pining for more sun, but it's been such a dry, hot, sunny, summer that I happily welcomed a couple rainy days as my excuse to catch up on t.v. and spend last weekend keeping it mostly low key with a trip to Bed, Bath and Beyond and some tidying of the apartment and gutting all the clothes, shoes and old food from my car.

Ladylike

Last weekend, I put away the jorts and dressed a little more ladylike for a dinner out on Saturday night. The weather was perfect and I could layer a leather jacket with the dress along with other red and black accessories. I was pretty sick this entire weekend, it's a surprise I could pull myself together that night!

Black + Red

After a day of drinking mimosas and wandering the Coast Guard Festival last Saturday, I headed to the Nylon and True Religion Party in Chicago. This wasn't just any party, Milo Greene was playing! I heard one of their songs in a bar months ago before I could even find information for them online and was so pumped to see them play live in a more intimate setting. It was the perfect night to overuse a photobooth with Jack, stare at the Chicago skyline from the Bottom Lounge rooftop and sing along to Milo Greene. I'll share some photos here tomorrow I think!

Orange

After work last Friday, I tossed on this maxi dress and headed out the door on a long drive to probably the cutest beach town in Michigan. It worked well for a comfortable ride in my car and to wander the quaint town with my ice cream and then again later, to enjoy drinks at a hotel bar with a group of my good friends and cozy enough at night for a second trip to an ice cream shop. It's safe to say I overindulged on hot dogs, corn dogs, ice cream and cocktails this last weekend.
