Out in the Sun

I wore this to a radio show interview on Sunday. Kat and I snapped photos of our outfits before chatting about spring trends with In Her Shoes co-hosts Tiffany and Shelley. It was nice to have an excuse to dress up since I spent most of last weekend in sweats packing boxes and watching movies like "Iron Man" and "Live Free or Die Hard" by myself. Damn, I love both those movies.
Kat and I rushed to Target the Sunday the Go International Designer Collective was released and I snatched up  this Jovovich-Hawk dress (not really snatched up, but slowly perused the racks because no one else besides us were shopping the dresses!) I love Milla Jovovich and I will support any of her endeavors whether it's the movie, Fifth Element or any future clothing lines she may do. Anyways, I paired the dress with some knee highs, sky high platforms and added a hat! It's the first time I've seen so much sun since my Miami vacation and I've been dying to wear the hat out around town.

Pink Lace and Blue Crochet

I wore this a couple Saturdays ago after hearing it would be 41 degrees, which sounded unbelievably warm to me. Shockingly, it was not. I visited my friend Erin in the Detroit area and we visited a few of my favorite neighborhoods to shop and eat before I leave Michigan. She's my absolute favorite person to shop with and we share a mutual affinity for Mexican food, which naturally, is what we chose for dinner. Although shady, Mexicantown boasts some delicious restaurant options that are dirt cheap.
Threadsence sent me this fabulous top by Mink Pink. I paired it with some blue flats from Wanted to help chase away the last of winter blues. I was a little inspired by superman ice cream (which I googled and found through blogs this may just be a Midwest thing.) Nonetheless, I had colors in my mind and wanted to combine a couple.

You can also see I went a little lighter in my hair color, which I think always ends up looking lighter when my hair is straightened anyway. I want to figure out the best color for my hair because it makes such a difference. I might just be bored though. Throughout college, I experimented with virtually every hair color and ruined by hair in the process, but I just don't know what color is the best for me. Maybe I should have darker hair? Maybe I should try red again like I had in college? My natural color is this really flat ashy color, which would be fine if curly hair didn't make it look even more dull. It would be weird to have a different hair color with the name of my blog, but I'm willing to overlook that. Any suggestions?

Guest Editor and featured in Blowfish Shoes' E-Zine!

I had the privilege of winning a contest on Chictopia several months back and won the opportunity to serve as the guest editor of the spring issue of Fashionography, an e-zine published by Blowfish Shoes! See some of my blogger friends, Tick Tock Vintage and Cheetah is the New Black featured in there as well! I loved brainstorming feature ideas, interviewing the shoe designer and sharing some music festivals I'm pumped for this summer. Please take a look and let me know what you think! Thank you Blowfish, for giving me this opportunity!

Finally Spring!

I haven't had this amazing of a weekend in so long. It was a whirlwind of friends and fun, reconnecting with old ones and hanging out with newer ones this weekend. The highlight was getting to spend the weekend with my friends Courtney and Ben who came to visit from Chicago. We planned out the weekend to start with what I consider the best breakfast place in all the land: Golden Harvest, followed by  manicures, and then shopping in East Lansing and Old Town. We ended the night pretty late out with my Lansing friends at a few fun bars. I couldn't think of a better way to end one of the last two weekends I have left here. Now I need to really focus on packing up my apartment now! And thanks for all the packing advice in my last post. There were a lot of great suggestions I hadn't thought about before which will make this move a little easier on me.
I picked up these distressed jeans when I was in Miami and it was a nice enough day on Saturday to wear a light jacket over a loose tee, my favorite casual attire. I felt like I was incognito in this outfit with straight hair. Usually people can identify me from far off places because they see a huge mound of curly hair, but this past week I kept it straight, thanks to my friend Katie who did all the work.
Thanks Courtney for taking my photos!

We stopped at Cravings Popcorn and tried almost every flavor.
We ended getting so much popcorn! I picked out spicy chilly cheese and apple cider cinnamon popcorn.

All Things Go

For this outfit, I pulled together a lot of basics that add up to something a little more interesting than a typical all black ensemble I might typically reach for. I really only grabbed coffee in this outfit, but it spiced up my life that day.
I've been a little boring lately, perfectly content hanging out with myself watching movies and slowly beginning to pack for the move. It's as if my body wants to hibernate in preparation of the faster pace of life I'll have in Chicago. I can't wait to meet more and more people! And as much as I love being a slob living by myself, it might be nice to have a roommate again, especially since my roommate will be a dude--the gender I prefer to live with. This move is becoming more of a reality as I chat up my new roomie, Evan, on the phone to talk logistics and as I pack my spices and keurig k cups. Any advice on packing? I'm feeling overwhelmed already!

Party Like It's 1999

This outfit is actually something I styled and wore for New Years Eve. So late, I know! I wore it out to dinner to my favorite restaurant, ENSO, with a group of friends then off to a party where I hung out with some of the dudes I went on tour with last year. I met a ton of cool people, including some of the ladies below in photos. For that night, I wanted a balance of comfort and edge and I thought leather shorts and with my grey top from Threadsence were the perfect way to ring in the new year.

Laura in a cute floral dress, keeping it classy with a bottle of wine. She has an array of gorgeous tattoos. I am obsessed with her! She lives in Toronto right now, but she's moving to L.A. and I'm sad I can't see her more!

Finding the Balance: FBFF Questions

Group from New Year's Eve and also my most recent attempt at making time for a social life. :)

1. When it comes to prioritizing your life, in what place does blogging fall?
Blogging is a higher priority to me, placing second to my job. Blogging began as a hobby, but it's become a little more now and it involves more time and commitment, which I'm willing to give it. I'm committed to my future and career, almost to a fault. To my benefit, my blog has helped open so many doors for me and it's why I was offered the new marketing position I accepted to launch an online boutique.

2. We all wish we had more free time to dedicate to blogging and all it entails. What are your tricks for taking advantage of the time you do have to be as productive as possible?
Since it's become difficult for me to find photographers to help me, especially through winter when I don't have as much light to work with, I'll photograph a couple outfits at once--ones I've worn or plan to wear and will post them as I wear them. It really helps and takes away the stress I used to have during the week to run home and take photos and find someone to help last minute. I've also come into a routine which helps me out as well--I usually post Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Having this schedule helps me stay on schedule. In terms of keeping up with other blogs, I love Bloglovin'. I can keep up withe everyone and comment and easily share on other social media sites.

3. Have you discovered any short-cuts that makes blogging easier or more time efficient?
Planning ahead has definitely helped me and I think it's helpful to actually schedule a block of time at least once a week dedicated to anything blog related. I find myself working on things every night--whether it's styling outfits, editing photos, taking photos or writing copy, there is some element I'm working on almost every day and for me, spacing it out every day and making time after work helps me tackle it all.

4. Do you have an editorial calendar or something similar that helps you plan ahead?
Yes, but I'm the girl who writes out daily to-do lists for work and personal life and has a time line for every project. It just helps me stay on track. I need to see things on a calendar in order to visualize it and hold myself accountable to finishing posts.

5. If time wasn’t an issue what you would be doing on your blog/for your blog that you aren’t doing now?
I would be spending more time photographing people whose style inspire me and incorporating video. I just don't have the time to schedule a lot of portrait sessions or  to learn how to edit video and post it. I'd love to take some classes on video editing and design to be able to do this stuff on my own!

In a Land of Perpetual Snow

These photos look like I'm in the middle of Narnia, perhaps in pursuit of Mr. Tumnus while delighting in the land's mystical beauty. Really, I was behind a Target store freezing my ass off. I'm not sure why I constantly wear impractical clothing during winter. I wore this last Saturday after I was done photographing a friend's engagement session in my hometown. I forced my mom to run to Target with me and I promised her treats from Starbucks. I seem to hold her hostage all the time and offer treats in exchange. If only I could pay everyone in coffee and scones.
