Petoskey: A Photo Diary

Exploring Petoskey

I forget how wonderful Northern Michigan can be with its quaint towns and clear water beaches. We made the trip up north for Labor Day weekend where I got to escape the heat and enjoy layering up in 60something degree weather. Truly delightful. Petoskey is a town I’ve visited a handful of times over the course of my lifetime, but not enough to recall the cute shops and restaurants. It has a sizable, walkable downtown area that we spent hours wandering. Read More »

Last Stop: San Francisco

Bay Area Exploring

We spent the last two days of vaca in San Francisco waking up at the ass crack of dawn to beat the crowds and the traffic. We walked through the ancient forest of Muir Woods, drove through the winding mountains and hills, grabbed breakfast in Sausalito and drove back over the Golden Gate Bridge to share a sundae at Ghirardelli Square, coffee at the Mill Cafe, tour the Ferry Building and check out Oakland. Big Sur and Beyond

To Big Sur

My mom and I got up at 4 a.m. pacific time en route to Big Sur. With last summer’s fire and recent landslides, our trip to Big Sur wasn’t what we originally planned. We tacked on an extra hour to get there and missed out on some spots I was hoping to see, but there was still plenty of great views! We even spotted a sea otter, my mom’s one hope this trip. We traveled as far as we could into Big Sur and stopped to see our first Redwoods before spending the day in Carmel/Monterrey and staying overnight in Santa Cruz. Read More »

Pacific Coast Travel Style

First day PCH

I’ve mentioned once or twice that I had planned an almost weeklong road trip adventure with my mom along the Pacific Coast Highway–starting in LA and working our way up to San Francisco. I didn’t snap many photos from LA because frankly, I don’t have the patience for that city and was looking forward to our second day and first road trip day! We woke up in LA and started our travel at 5 a.m. and stopped in Malibu, Ventura, Santa Barbara and Pismo Beach and stayed overnight in San Luis Obispo.

With the three hour time change from Eastern to Pacific time, we found ourselves up super early, making the drive on PCH a little more special without all the traffic. We pulled over a few times to wander the empty, quiet beaches and stare at the mountains. We enjoyed breakfast at Lilac Patisserie, shopping on the historic State Street and checking out attractions like  Old Mission in Santa Barbara before popping by other cities and ending our day in San Luis Obispo. Summer Travels

Leland & Glen Arbor

There is no place I’d rather be than northern Michigan. I prefer the pace and the clear, sparkling lakes and don’t think I’d feel too disconnected thanks to the internet. Every time I’m up there, I fantasize about a life where I either inherit great wealth and/or find a remote job, buy a home up there and sneak away to enjoy a few seasons a year as a hermit.

Unfortunately, I’m not there in life yet, but it’s an easy three hour drive. I spent most of last week in Traverse City for a client’s annual conference and I had a chance to sneak away during an afternoon to explore Leland and Glen Arbor, both quaint towns on the Leelanau Peninsula. Cole was able to join me and I love whenever we travel together. We’re both grumpy introverts with little patience and so we generally want to do the same things and most importantly, avoid the same things (like long lines, crowds..) Read More »
