My Morning Routine

My morning routine has changed dramatically over the last couple years. I used to wake up at 7:40 a.m., give myself 10 minutes to get ready and be out the door and to work at 7:58 a.m., just in time to start the work day. And in between and then now, I started growing accustomed to a slower pace in the morning when I began working from home.
Now, with a dog and the need for some peace before launching into a work day, I wake up at 7 a.m. and can mosey into work around 8:30 a.m., giving myself plenty of time to walk James, clean/organize and sit on the couch for a moment. I’ve been a little over indulgent in these laid back mornings and choosing them over a 8 a.m. workout on the weekends where I rush out the door. But at least one day during the weekend, I hit up a class at FLEXcity Fitness at 8 a.m. or 9 a.m. to start my day.

Weekends usually mean donuts and/or a trip to our favorite diner down the road where I ask for pumpkin pancakes and extra crispy bacon. Never gets old. But a morning always starts with a quick walk for James and feeding him before retiring to bed or the couch for him to cuddle. He loves to snuggle up on me after eating and we keep each other warm, especially when it’s as cold as it is now (or we add the space heater for extra warmth.)
After my eating and bumming around, I check my to-do lists. I keep a personal list and work list that might include cleaning certain rooms, working on blog posts or finishing something from work that I didn’t get to during the week. I’m lost without my google calendar and journal with the to-do lists and since I’m Type A, I reference these both several times throughout each day, but especially in the morning to mentally prepare for the day.
