When Schoola, an online consignment shop that donates 40 percent of proceeds to schools’ art and music programs, reached out to me and asked for me to help promote their cause, it was a resounding yes. While I’m not artist or musician, these are the kinds of programs that provided me the kind of therapy that worked for an incredibly shy little girl experiencing childhood trauma that talking and counseling couldn’t help. I needed a paint brush and caring teachers who let me explore different kinds of art, channeling emotions and energy into something positive. I loved to draw, color, paint and read–and those classes and programs made me feel normal.
These programs are quickly disappearing and low-income communities need them for their children to thrive, but they are the first to get cut. So I’ve packed a big bag of clothes to ship with the bag and shipping label they sent and hope to raise more money to benefit these programs.
So join the movement and help raise awareness for how enrichment programs are disappearing from schools due to underfunding. Share your favorite school memory on social media for a chance to win a $50 gift card to Schoola during the month of March. Use the hashtag #WhyISchoola on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter!

Just Black

DSC_0353
I was faced with a challenge of dressing myself last week for a press conference I organized for a client at the capitol. I didn’t want to do the typical blazer look and I also knew I couldn’t get away with my normal work look of ripped jeans and a tee. Then, I remembered this beautiful and super soft maxi skirt I bought from Retail Therapy last month. It’s fleece and has a really nice shape. I added a simple black tank top, thin leather jacket and topped with a mongolian lamb vest. I felt like a queen and traipsed around that capitol like I owned the place..well not really. More like a chicken with its head cut off making sure shit was right, but afterwards, I glided out of there like I was queen.
Also, not sure if you noticed, but those lustrous lashes definitely aren’t mine. Michelle who owns Bloom Beauty, thoroughly lined by lids with natural, but much more voluminous lashes to complement my blondie ones. It’s been strange waking up with amazing looking lashes. If you live in Lansing, check her out! She’s most active on her Facebook page while she’s waiting a new salon space!
