Snow is Here

I tried something new this winter..I didn’t bitch about the impending snow or curse it as filled my driveway and sidewalk (of which now I’m legally required to handle myself as a homeowner. Ugh what a goddamn bummer.) Michigan winters are harsh and it’s just the start–so I’ve been stocking up on hats, boots and more practical outerwear. And more non-practical outwear too.

The Weekend

Despite the snow shitting on my weekend and ruining my Sunday plans, I was still busy with morning meetings, a MSU basketball game and a friendsgiving that involved the most delicious food AND sharing stories of people who have shit their pants. Quite possibly the most lovely evening I’ve had in some time.

I traveled up to Bellaire in Northern Michigan with a few of my favorite pals, Haley and Kyle along with Hay’s sis and cousin for the Short’s Brewing Company Anni Party. Basically a giant ass block party with 4,000+ people, three bands, food trucks and a lot of beer. I wore this in the morning, obviously over-dressed for the small town and checked out the local boutiques before changing into flats for the party.

Just Black

I was faced with a challenge of dressing myself last week for a press conference I organized for a client at the capitol. I didn’t want to do the typical blazer look and I also knew I couldn’t get away with my normal work look of ripped jeans and a tee. Then, I remembered this beautiful and super soft maxi skirt I bought from Retail Therapy last month. It’s fleece and has a really nice shape. I added a simple black tank top, thin leather jacket and topped with a mongolian lamb vest. I felt like a queen and traipsed around that capitol like I owned the place..well not really. More like a chicken with its head cut off making sure shit was right, but afterwards, I glided out of there like I was queen.
Also, not sure if you noticed, but those lustrous lashes definitely aren’t mine. Michelle who owns Bloom Beauty, thoroughly lined by lids with natural, but much more voluminous lashes to complement my blondie ones. It’s been strange waking up with amazing looking lashes. If you live in Lansing, check her out! She’s most active on her Facebook page while she’s waiting a new salon space!

All Black

I’ve been on an all black kick. This sweater is cozy and these jeans are my favorite, and together, it’s a combo that I’ve been wearing on repeat the last couple weeks. Call it laziness, but the combo has worked for friend birthday dinners, work and couch surfing. Since I can’t get enough black jeans, I’m thinking I might scoop up another pair of these from OU, at $58, they’re a steal and high waist like these.

Black + Grey

This weekend kicks off a slew of festivities that I’ve been anxiously awaiting: a trip to Chicago, Create + Cultivate and a Birchbox breakfast event downtown. Sam and I came down Thursday night and have an itinerary jam packed with cool shit. Believe me, I put together an itinerary to ensure we time everything out to fit it all in like Stan’s Donuts, the Shudio, downtown shopping and maybe some wandering in Wicker Park.
The excitement continues next week when I head into my first day at Martin Waymire Advocacy Communications. The team is incredibly talented, knowledgeable and a little intimidating, not because they want to be, but they’re on top of their game. I’m anxious to get started and get on that level. I’ve read something a while ago that said “I’m not comfortable unless I’m uncomfortable” and I’d say that’s my motto. I’ve been learning and growing a lot, in many ways that really challenged me in my last position. But now I’m excited for a challenge to grow in my profession and learn from the best.
I’ve been freelancing the last month, building off of blog, photography and social media work. The most exciting part of that has been using my set of skills to help local small businesses that are really the type of stores and studios we need to keep and grow like like Retail Therapy and FLEXcity Fitness. I feel like I’m on a constant rollercoaster ride with all these great things happening and that’s how I want my life to feel like.
