I made my way to West Michigan in my redneck Easter best. My family got a kick out of it. I got the nod of approval from my stepdad and my brother said I was “camo chic” and gave me the highest honor to be bestowed: a high five. My brother hosted Easter for the first time and it was a ton of fun. I really enjoy the casualness applied to holidays in my family.
I spent Sunday smothering mini aussie puppies with love over at my mom’s followed by playing with ninja turtles with the children at the family get-together. A camo tee, loose fitting jeans and a pair of heels seemed like the perfect outfit to conduct such activities.

Cats, Merl and I

DSC_1830small
One of my priorities in Chicago last weekend was to visit Merl’s cats and harass them. Wheezy was just minding her own business and I was able to catch her lookin’ all cute before she realized I was near.

I love a good wide angle lens and a bit of distortion. I need to buy my own wide angle lens finally.

A Polka Dot Top

pic

Due to the top’s cozy versatility and my pride of fitting back into these jeans, I wore them both a couple times last week. Sure, there’s a bit of a muffin top with the jeans, but when you wear a dolman style top and layers, you’re good. At least that’s what I tell myself.
I wore the “Sporty Spice” look as Merl calls it last Saturday in Chicago as we trekked through Randolph Street Market to take a gander at the vintage and visit Karyn (and meet her Johnny Depp-lookalike boyfriend.) Merl and I went out on a rooftop to shoot the rest of the photos of the outfit I wore last week. I can’t wait for it to stop snowing so I can wear this pink heels more, damn it.

The highlight of the weekend was getting together with Merl, Karyn, her boyfriend Mike and Lora of Hungry Heart Vintage in Lincoln Square. With Lora’s love of meats, puppies and her involvement in FFA, I knew we were kindred spirits. These girls have such interesting careers, interests and hilarious personalities and hanging out with this group made me miss living in Chicago. It breaks my heart I can’t be closer to the people I’m so fond of. Looks like a lot of mini road trips this summer.

Every Rose Has Its Thorn

DSC_1755

I bore an uncanny resemblance to Bret Michaels yesterday, but the outfit was truly inspired by Sons of Anarchy, which I finally started watching a couple weeks ago. With this leather jacket, I’m on the hunt for a suitor like Jax or Opie!

Fake It Til You Make It

DSC_0929
To brighten up my week, I knew I needed some color in my work wear. I’ve been trying to balance my job and another position in the office and Wednesday was one of those long days where no one seemed to show any kindness, I couldn’t get work done due to meetings and other interruptions and was at my wits end. And then I had to prepare myself for an on-camera interview with a TV station. Luckily, my interview went well and after a board meeting, I could finally retire back to my apartment to watch some creepy shows on the Investigation Discovery channel.

I absolutely love this lace peplum top. It’s just so delicate and feminine. I decided to pair it with mint pants and layer on a leather jacket and a faux fur vest to stay warm in the 24 degree weather. I’m off to Chicago for the weekend and I packed some springy things, that I know I probably won’t get to wear unfortunately. I’m hopeful though!
