downtown portland, mich.

I traveled to the west side of the state yesterday to attend Tieka’s red carpet viewing party and I picked up Haley from her hometown of Portland, Mich. on the way. The downtown area has a couple cute bridges and shops so I made a quick stop to photograph Haley before heading to Grand Haven. Haley is such a doll and I love photographing her and I think I may steal that jacket from her. She bought the jacket while up north in the Upper Peninsula where I had once assumed nothing fashionable existed. She got the jacket 50 percent off. What. A. Steal.

Tieka’s party was so much fun. I’ll be posting some photos from that tomorrow!

erin part deux

Mondays. Normally I hate them, but I was super busy at work and the day flew right by! I met up for dinner with my friend, Jasmine and shopped some sales at Urban Outfitters. The pleasant mood today helped fuel some of my energy to clean my apartment. And now time to shop online! Or at least look..

As promised, below are some photos of my friend Erin from Saturday.

friday restday

I’m pumped to share that Tieka and I will be attending Chictopia10 Social Influence Summit in New York City! We’re roadtripping it and staying at Hotel 91. Our room will have twin beds! It’s the last room available that weekend and it’s so cheap! I’ve never been to NYC before so I’m a little nervous! But also excited to hear the founder of Modcloth speak, see the designer showcase and meet some of these fabulous girls I see on Chictopia.

I’ve been feeling terrible with a migraine that I’ve had for the last 24 hours, so no outfit post like I originally planned. I was instructed to take the day off which I hate doing. I’m a control freak and I had things to get done and we have Monday off for MLK Day so everything is going to get put of until next Tuesday. πŸ™ But I did want to share a couple things that I like on the blog while I’m couchbound. I just took vicodin and I’m feeling a bit better for the moment.

I’ve been really drawn to anything grey, which isn’t uncommon for me but every accessory or shoe I like happens to be grey.

I am in love with this leather belted hip pack that’s on sale at Need Supply. Sometimes I just don’t need a purse and I hate carrying things around on my arms if I’m out with friends or shopping.

This shoe was apparently designed with the help of Emily who won the Jeffrey Campbell contest on How exciting and this shoe is amazing.

things i like

Chunky knits. I can’t get enough. From thick circle scarves to oversized sweaters, I love them all. They’re absolutely perfect for surviving Michigan winters. Victoria’s photo from Lookbook is pretty much a testimony to all the current styles I love and they work together.

Wedges. Jeffrey Campbell has some rockin’ bootie wedges. Especially these cut out, lace ups. I usually go for black shoes, but these look better in grey. Both colors are available though.

Tapered pants. I’m not usually a dress pants type of person, but when I saw these silk tapered trouses from Acne, it was love at first sight. I did some searching to find a couple less expensive versions. I personally opted for the BCBG crossover pant, but only because I was afraid of ordering these from Topshop. I’ll be posting some photos tomorrow of my new pants!

Leather jackets. Love love love. A leather jacket adds structure to my loose fitting shirts and adds some toughness to more feminine dresses I wear to work. Caroline styled this Balenciaga biker leather with a striped Alexander Wang top. I like how simple and effortless this is. It’s probably her way of dressing to run to the grocery store instead of wearing a frumpy old sweatshirt like I tend to do.

Capes. They’re practical AND cute. Louise is a stunning example of how to pull off a cape coat. I should have photographed my boss lady, Kate when she wore a cape to work last week. She also wore hers very well and made me pine for one even more.
